The following commands are available to users to enable them to
process files on 'private' magnetic tapes.
DEFINEMT Enable access to tape file from user program
HOLDMT Hold tape at last known position on tape drive
RELEASEMT Release tape - converse of HOLDMT
TAPEANAL Provide an analysis of the contents of a tape.
FROMTAPE Read files from a tape into user's files.
TOTAPE Write user's files to tape.
COPYTAPE Copy files from tape(s) to tape.

For full details see the manual "EMAS 2900: Magnetic Tape"

For further information on tapes in general and the above commands in
particular see the following sections:
!<Standards for tapes
!KEY
Hardware standard. The ERCC EMAS services can process tapes written
at 1600 bits per inch in Phase Encoded mode, known as "1600bpi PE" for
short. Other densities cannot be processed conveniently.

Labelling standard. In general the tapes to which users have access
should follow the IBM standards for the processing of tapes labels.
Unlabelled tapes can be processed but the practice is not encouraged
because of the operational difficulties involved and the increased risk
of accidental corruption of users' tapes.

File structure standards. The files on tapes must follow the IBM
standards for block and record structure if the user is not to
experience considerable difficulties in processing the files on a tape.
