------------------------------------ CPT-Diagrams 1.1.1 Linux (x86,glibc) version, Java JDK/JRE 1.1 required. Shareware, runs in demo mode until registered. Freely distributable. Updated: 16-Feb-1999 ------------------------------------ DESCRIPTION ----------- The Crossword Power Tools (CPT) is software for creation of crosswords from scratch. CPT-Diagrams is a program from the CPT kit. Its main and unique goal is to generate diagrams - the layout of black and white cells of the crossword grid. It's unique in the sense that we don't know any other crossword related program able to do this automatic generation. Features: - Generates diagrams in different styles; - It has several algorithms for generation with parameters; - Supports over 20 conditions for the properties of the generated diagrams; - Data management modules can handle without problem crossword sets containing tens of thousands diagrams; - Built in queries over the crossword sets; - Includes the CPT-Editor which allows browsing and editing files in many data formats, filling and printing crosswords in many languages. There is HTML documentation and you can find more details there. The supplied diagrams, grids and crosswords are generated by the CPT programs and are free. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ------------------- - Supported OS: Linux (x86) - tested on Red Hat 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2 (for Win 9X and Win NT 4.0 there is a separate distribution); - Requires 1 MB of disk space and 32 MB RAM; - This is Java program and Sun's JDK/JRE 1.1.6 or greater or compatible is needed (see support/LinuxJRE.txt); INSTALL ------- 1. Extract this archive into temporary directory. 2. Run "install" script from the temporary directory in xterm (it runs under X Window). This will start the wizard and according to your choices, the CPT-Diagrams program will be installed. 3. The installation progarm (install.class) is a self-extracting class file whose contents get extracted during the installation and two directories will be created: - the target one you choosed for the installation; - \bin directory for the uninstall program (see UNINSTALL below). If your window manager is KDE or some of the window managers from the Red Hat distribution, entries for CPT-Diagrams in the desktop menu will be added. 4. During the installation you will be asked for a License Key, if you don't have, leave the field empty - the program will run in Demo mode. In this mode some of the saving and printing operations are disabled (you can run the generator, the editor, the print-preview, you can save your work in text files, but the exporting to other formats and creating/saving libraries are locked). 5. If you have problem running CPT-Diagrams, check/modify the generated 'cpt_d11' file to reflect your JDK/JRE environment, especially if you install a new version of JRE after you install this program. UNINSTALL --------- To uninstall, do one of the following: 1. Click on the 'uninstall' item added to the desktop menu. This will work only if the installation program managed to recognize your window manager and a menu folder 'Crossword Power Tools' has been added, if not - see 2. 2. Go to your /bin and run ./juninst /UnInst where is the path where you installed the program. If you have installed a new version of JRE after the installation of this program, check/modify 'juninst' in your /bin sub directory. After the uninstallation the '/bin' directory will not be removed because it serves all CPT packages. If you don't have any other CPT program, you can delete it. LINUX "FEATURES" ---------------- Here are the known problems not solved in the Linux version of CPT-Diagrams. 1. When you have to select directory via 'Select Folder' button from the Top Window, the Linux native control will not set the directory path until you select a file from the directory. 2. The standard Java printing may not work properly with your language and you have to create PostScript file in Print-preview and print it, e.g. via gv program. 3. Not all possible Linux window managers and their settings are supported. For the detailed list see '/support/WindowManagers.txt'.
